Frequently Asked Questions

What types of organizations do you typically work with?
We partner primarily with small to mid-sized nonprofits, but can work with any mission-driven for-profit organization. Whether you're navigating growth, preparing for leadership transition, or struggling with capacity, we meet you where you are.

Do you only work with nonprofits in Washington?
While we are rooted in Washington, we work with clients across the United States. All of our services are offered remotely, and we’re happy to tailor engagement formats based on your team’s location and needs.

How do your services differ from hiring a full-time staff person?
We provide high-level expertise without the overhead. With consulting and fractional support, you get strategic, executive-level guidance tailored to your scope, timeline, and budget without adding another salaried position to your team.

What’s the process for getting started?
Non Express Services begin with a brief scoping process to confirm fit, timing, and scope. From there, we provide a defined proposal outlining deliverables, timeline, and pricing. Express Services can be purchased directly based on fixed scope and deliverables.

How much do your services cost?
Pricing varies by service type. Express Services are offered at fixed scope and price. All other engagements are scoped based on organizational size, complexity, and the systems involved. Pricing is confirmed following scoping and outlined clearly before work begins.

Can we hire you just for grant writing?
No. EmpowerTactics does not provide outsourced grant writing or grant management. Grant support is offered exclusively through proposal review and coaching, allowing organizations to strengthen internal capacity while maintaining ownership of submissions.

Existing clients will continue to receive support through the completion of current engagements. We are also happy to provide referrals for services that fall outside our scope.

How long are your engagements?
It depends on the service. Strategic planning and succession planning are often 6 to 12 week projects. Fractional roles and implementation support typically span 3 to 12 months depending on scope and goals.

Do you only work with organizations that are already established?
Not necessarily. We’ve worked with new and emerging organizations that are ready to build strong systems from the start, as well as established nonprofits looking to restructure or refocus.

What makes EmpowerTactics different from other consultants?
We don’t show up with a template. Our approach is relational, not transactional. We’re here to co-create solutions that actually work for your team. We help organizations clarify how work actually happens and build the infrastructure needed for consistency and continuity.

Is the Signal Scan a strategic plan?
No. The Signal Scan is a starting point. It helps you decide what needs attention first before committing to a full plan or larger investment.

Will this tell us everything that is wrong?
No. It identifies the most important pressure points and risks so you can stop reacting and make informed decisions.

Who should complete the assessment?
It works best when completed by one to three senior leaders who have a broad view of operations, leadership, and capacity.

Do we have to work with EmpowerTactics after?
No. Signal Scan is a complete engagement on its own. You will leave with clarity whether or not you pursue additional support.

Is this only for nonprofits?
No. Signal Scan is designed for mission-driven organizations, including nonprofits and values-aligned businesses.

What if our organization requires invoicing or purchase approval?
Contact us before checkout and we will coordinate invoicing or payment approval.

Why did EmpowerTactics stop offering certain services?
As organizations grow and change, so do their needs. We found that our strongest impact comes from building clear, durable systems. Narrowing our scope allows us to deliver higher quality work with clearer outcomes.

What is required from our team during an engagement?

Most services require timely access to documentation, availability for structured interviews, and engagement from designated leadership contacts. Clear participation expectations are outlined during scoping.

How do you handle confidentiality?

All work is handled with discretion. Information shared during engagements is used solely for the agreed scope of work and is not shared externally.

What happens if we realize we need a different service partway through?

If needs shift outside the agreed scope, we will pause and discuss next steps. Additional work requires a revised scope or a separate engagement.
